In South Korea, beauty tricks are simply better. Skincare and new technology come together in their approach to beauty. Beauty ideals may be just as unattainable as in any other society, but the difference lies in the method: innovative formulas and even subtler techniques create results that come remarkably close to that ideal.
What makes this even more appealing is the fact that the techniques used by K-pop stars’ makeup artists are not reserved solely for professionals. They are easy to recreate at home, even if your skills are not at the same level.
From soft, visually fuller lips achieved through strategic product application without lip liner, to cheeks that appear plumper thanks to “putty” blush formulas, Korean beauty ideals always invite play and experimentation.

One such simple makeup trick has shown many people how to achieve the look of the popular glass skin complexion. And while some might expect ten steps, three serums, and an exotic snail mucin mask, the reality is, typically Korean, far more elegant. You will not need ten, or even five steps. In fact, just one product is enough: the Bean Essence with a slightly tacky texture from the Korean brand Mixsoon.
Its slightly sticky texture may feel unusual at first touch, but this very quality hides the secret of the trick. This essence is enriched with fermented grains and plant extracts that improve hydration, restore radiance, and smooth uneven skin texture, making it suitable for all skin types.
A similar effect can also be achieved with the Pyunkang Yul Moisture Ampoule. With a honey-like texture that melts into the skin, it gently smooths and intensely hydrates, making it an excellent choice for dry skin.
All you need to do is mix two pumps of the essence with two pumps of your favorite liquid foundation. Blend the mixture thoroughly until it becomes completely even and silky. This creates a new, custom-made foundation worthy of Korean beauty stars, best applied with a spatula, although your usual liquid foundation tools will work just as well.
The richer the foundation formula and the higher its coverage, the more pronounced the final effect will be. As the essence is extremely hydrating, the skin gains that signature glass-like glow, while its slight tackiness allows the formula to adhere perfectly to the skin and last flawlessly throughout the day.
Unlike classic glow techniques that rely on light-reflecting particles and layered products, this method works from within. The richer the foundation and the higher its coverage, the more impressive the result. The essence gently thins it out without any loss of coverage, giving it the softness and transparency usually associated only with healthy skin.
We may not all have K-pop genetics or access to the best dermatologists and aestheticians, but glass skin? It seems that might still be within reach.
