Bottega Veneta’s Andiamo Is The Tote To Know In 2024

The new bag has received the Vogue editors’ seal of approval

Matthieu Blazy’s trompe-l’œil leather jeans and shirts weren’t the only talking-points from his sophomore show for Bottega Veneta – ditto the Kate Moss cameo. Amidst the elevated basics on offer, Blazy’s confident new bag shape, the Andiamo, made its debut, immediately becoming a hot topic in the days and weeks that followed. Fans made a mental note to “add to wish list”. And over a year later, the Andiamo remains a core accessory in Blazy’s accessories offering. In fact, at the end of February, the cult style was revived in slouchy black and brown leather, alongside a striking red intrecciato suede, at the brand’s autumn/winter 2024 show.

Meaning “let’s go” in Italian, the Andiamo taps into Blazy’s founding principle “craft in motion”, a mantra that influences his designs each season, and the brand says the bag’s dynamic design is “a vision for elevated everyday living”. Meticulously crafted from paper-thin calf leather in the Bottega Veneta atelier, the silhouette proposes a fresh take on the house’s signature woven intrecciato technique, realised in a range of sizes.

Recognisable for the subtle gold-finish hardware, which is in the shape of a knot, the bag was perhaps the most practical accessory in Blazy’s spring/summer 2023 line-up, given its boxy structure, divided internal compartments and braided strap, that can be worn crossbody or over the shoulder. (The bucket-shaped Kalimero, another hero bag from the collection, is an objet by comparison.)

The Andiamo was a “timeless addition” for deputy director of Vogue’s global fashion network, Laura Ingham, who says her accessories “act like fashion foundations” that “complement and enhance” her personal style.

I love its versatility, continues Laura, who test-drove the Andiamo at Paris Fashion Week. The only downside? Choosing from the vast colour range: Glacier (a very light teal), Fondant (dark brown), Barolo (rich maroon), Travertine (beige green), Inkwell (dark blue), Ice Cream (light pale yellow) and optic white (to name but a few). But all in all, it’s an investment piece that will last a lifetime.
