Japanese manga is a universe of its own, pulling in devoted fans from every corner of the world. Among the truly iconic titles is NANA, the manga series created by artist and illustrator Ai Yazawa. This year marks its 25th anniversary, and since its debut it has grown far beyond entertainment, becoming a cultural phenomenon. NANA earned its status thanks to brilliant storytelling, but also because of its striking visual identity. The fashion in the series draws heavily from punk subculture, rebellion and the unmistakable looks of Vivienne Westwood.
To celebrate the anniversary, and following the release of the limited English omnibus edition of NANA, Vivienne Westwood teamed up with VIZ Media to create a special limited collection of iconic archival pieces that Ai Yazawa illustrated throughout the manga. The exclusive capsule collection draws from the personal style of its characters, from the soft pastel looks of Nana Komatsu to the edgy punk outfits and tartan-heavy wardrobe of Nana Osaki.

The collection features reinterpretations of pieces from Westwood’s rich archive, including the Mini Sunday Dress crafted from light pink, hand-drawn poplin, and the Stormy Jacket in red Lochcarron tartan, a homage to the jacket from the Fall/Winter 1996/97 Storm In A Teacup collection. There’s also the Puppy Corset, Cigarette Trousers, the signature Mini Kilt and classic T-shirts with the Westwood Galaxy print. The archival Rocking Horse Ballerina platforms, first introduced in the Fall/Winter 1987/88 Harris Tweed collection, have also been reimagined in red Lochcarron tartan with ribbon ties or pink metallic leather.

The Belle Frame bag with its coral-pink heart motif and the Charm Frame bag in black tartan reflect the contrasting aesthetics of the two main characters. The collection also includes special jewelry pieces inspired by illustrations from the series. A safety pin adorned with a pearl drop, a teddy bear and a strawberry motif – symbols closely tied to Nana – appears across the designs, along with pearl necklaces and chokers similar to those worn by the protagonists of the cult manga. This exclusive collection is a real treat for fans who want to channel their favorite characters through their outfits, as well as for lovers of the Westwood archive, whose iconic pieces have been brought back to life in a new way.
