Inside the Chanel dress Selena Gomez wore to the Golden Globes

Before the winners accept their prestigious statuettes and deliver their speeches, Hollywood’s A-list traditionally walks the red carpet in carefully conceived looks prepared weeks, and often months, in advance. This year, the best-dressed lists were filled with standout appearances, but near the very top of almost all of them was American actress and musician Selena Gomez, who this year was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy for her role as Mabel Mora in the series Only Murders in the Building. At the 2026 Golden Globes, which she attended with her husband Benny Blanco, Gomez wore a long custom-made creation by the fashion house Chanel, a velvet bustier gown adorned with white floral elements crafted from feathers, silk chiffon, and silk organza. Selena’s dress, which is still being talked about days later, was undoubtedly one of the most striking creations of the evening.

The gown that drew the attention of everyone present is truly special. It consists of two hundred hand-sewn elements made of white feathers, organza, and silk chiffon that adorned the actress’s shoulders. Its creation in the Chanel atelier, from construction to intricate embroidery, required a total of 323 hours of work. Gomez completed the elegant, Golden Age Hollywood-inspired look for the Golden Globes red carpet with luxurious Chanel jewelry, from large diamond-embellished earrings to several rings, as well as black slingback shoes that were visible only when she lifted the train of the gown to walk more easily along the red carpet. She finished the look with a sleekly styled bob, dark lipstick, and unconventional black nail polish, while Blanco carefully coordinated his outfit with his wife’s, wearing a black suit with a diamond brooch and matching loafers. Although she has worn Chanel to fashion events before, this marked the first time Selena chose a creation by the French fashion house for the red carpet of an awards ceremony as significant as the Golden Globes.
The Chanel creation for Selena Gomez was designed by the brand’s creative director Matthieu Blazy, for whom this is the first awards season since taking on the role of creative director at the French fashion house, where he has already impressed audiences with his vision. In addition to Gomez, Chanel dressed Australian actress Rose Byrne for the 83rd Golden Globes, where she shone in an atypical shade of green, The Bear star Ayo Edebiri in a classic black off-the-shoulder gown, and American actress and comedian Maya Rudolph, who wore an elegant sequined dress with a collar adorned with striking green beads.
