Subtle jewelry? No, this season we wear royal gems

by Tina Lončar

January 20, 2026

Jewelry dominated the runways for the Spring/Summer 2026 season. Collections showcased a variety of styles: from colorful beads in a casual hippie vibe, to decadent semi-precious stones in boldly oversized designs, all the way to transparent pieces and jewelry reminiscent of fireworks, yes, we mean those famous red Chanel earrings. Yet one trend stood out: jewelry so lavish, adorned, and rich it looked as if it had been lifted straight from royal courts.

Fashion houses each interpreted the opulence of royal courts in their own way. Saint Laurent highlighted decadent dress silhouettes with large semi-precious stones on earrings and necklaces. Valentino spiced up retro-style blouse sleeves with striking bracelets. Collina Strada draped its “royal necklace” around the waist, while Simone Rocha amplified the sparkle of her looks with hairbands, earrings, and necklaces styled in perfect harmony. Though aesthetically different, they all shared one common thread – a turn away from minimalism and clean lines toward embellishment, boldness, shine, and luxury.

Ostentatious, theatrical, extravagant, and lavish jewelry that recalls the sparkle of royal courts is part of a broader trend stemming from a longing for a bygone, often romanticized glamour. Riding that wave of nostalgia, elegant opera gloves that reach above the elbow have returned, brooches and cufflinks have been pulled from jewelry boxes, ties are no longer just a symbol of formalwear and have been one of the most popular fashion accessories for seasons, and ruffles in various forms have floated down the runways.

The fantasy of aristocratic life, which comes alive through spring fashion trends, coincides with the release of the fourth season of the acclaimed series Bridgerton, premiering in two parts – the first on January 29 and the second on February 26. Since its debut in December 2020, Chris Van Dusen’s series, based on the novels by Julia Quinn, has captivated audiences so much that the Regency era in London suddenly drew unprecedented attention and interest.

Corsets, strands of pearls cascading down necklines and décolletés, countless lavish details, voluminous dresses with ruffles, and statement sleeves have become part of an aesthetic the internet has dubbed regencycore, popularizing a style inspired by the elegant and romantic fashions of early 19th-century European Regency. The fourth season of the acclaimed series, promising more romance, intrigue, and high-society games, will undoubtedly reignite interest in royal aesthetics – we are ready for regencycore 2.0.
