Outfits from People We Meet On Vacation that I’m saving for my next vacation

I am a fan of romantic comedies, and although I generally prefer watching films to reading books in this genre, Emily Henry’s novels are an exception for me. I love the way she builds chemistry between her characters, the fact that her books are so easy to read, and that they truly evoke the feeling of great romcoms from the 2000s. Precisely for that reason, it is hard for me to admit that Netflix’s adaptation of her hit novel People We Meet On Vacation did not particularly impress me. Not only is it a love story that is an absolute nightmare for Alex’s girlfriend Sarah, but I also think the film rushed past genuinely important moments that helped us understand the characters in the novel.
Be that as it may, the moment the end credits started rolling, I began rewinding the film to look at Poppy’s outfits again. I wanted to see whether the color of her clothes aligned with her feelings for Alex and whether they were perhaps connected to the song Red by Taylor Swift (what can I say, The Summer I Turned Pretty left a lasting mark). Of course, her single outfits are noticeably more neutral than the vibrant colors she wears while on vacation with Alex. Let us not forget that at one point she even wore a blue wig. However, beyond noticing that the costume design is inseparably linked to her emotions (as it should be), on a second look I also realized that I could learn quite a lot about vacation outfits from this professional “vacationer.”
From swimsuits to a silk dress à la Keira Knightley in the film Atonement, I decided to save Poppy’s best outfits for my next trip, because it never hurts to feel like the main character in a movie. Below, I highlight the looks worth making room for in your suitcase.
