Pinterest Predicts, the annual trend forecast published by Pinterest each year, predicts which themes, aesthetics, colors, concepts, and habits will emerge, grow, and shape directions in the year ahead based on their data. Through the analysis of billions of searches, saves (“pins”), and user interactions, and with the help of advanced analytics, they identify trends with real potential to influence all sectors, from fashion and beauty to travel and gastronomy. Among them, one interior design trend has stood out in particular, bringing contemporary decadence and a cosy atmosphere into living spaces.

As we have entered 2026, it feels almost symbolic to witness the return of the Roaring Twenties aesthetic through a trend Pinterest has named Neo Deco. Imagine the moment when, after a long day, you place your belongings on the console table in the hallway and step into the living room. The bustle of the city slowly fades behind velvet curtains as you prepare an after-work cocktail on a brass bar cart. The glass shimmers in subdued light, jazz plays softly in the background, and you sink comfortably into a leather sofa, picking up a book from a marble coffee table.

After years of minimalist aesthetics such as scandi, Neo Deco brings inherited, unique pieces, geometric ornaments, and deep, rich jewel tones back into interiors. It is a fusion of Art Deco glamour and modern comfort, flirting with the rich heritage of the past, but not in a stifling or outdated way. Instead, it aligns with contemporary functionality. It is luxurious without feeling pretentious, relaxed, and pleasant to live in. Most importantly, it restores warmth to spaces that have leaned heavily toward minimalism in recent years.

Characteristics of the Neo Deco style

The rise of Neo Deco is closely linked to the growing interest in heritage pieces and modern traditional, or traditional, style. Both movements reject the consumerist nature of fast furniture production and prioritize interiors with depth, character, and a sense of history.

While minimalism often favored sterile environments, empty surfaces, and neutral palettes, Neo Deco aims to create a comfortable and refined setting by layering rich color palettes and heavier textures such as velvet and leather. Incorporating pieces like leather sofas and velvet armchairs creates a sense of cosy, carefully curated glamour, a darker, more mature version of a cosy living space.

Shapes: Neo Deco is defined by the contrast between geometric patterns and rounded forms. Straight lines and basic shapes such as circles and triangles are softened by fan-shaped shells and rounded, fluid forms.

Materials: Neo Deco is primarily defined by rich, luxurious materials that radiate sophistication wrapped in comfort. The coolness of natural materials like marble, glass, and brass is softened with the textures of velvet, leather, and warm wood patterns.

Color palette: The primary color palette is muted and subdued, designed to create a warm and calming retreat. It consists of warm tones of natural materials such as wood and leather, deep jewel colors like emerald green, burgundy red, petrol blue, and amber orange, as well as pastel shades of light marble, milky glass, and warm golden and brass tones.

Interior furnishings: The Neo Deco style is reflected in pieces that carry a story and demonstrate craftsmanship. It is not about fully recreating a 1920s speakeasy bar, but about using high-quality, heritage-inspired statement pieces as focal points, around which modern, elegant elements are built, ensuring the space feels like a refined home rather than a museum.

Architectural elements and craftsmanship: Art Deco, and by extension Neo Deco, is a distinctly architectural style. Geometric patterns and symmetrical layouts such as herringbone and chevron create structure and formality, further emphasizing elements like wall paneling and pilasters typical of traditional interiors. This structured approach to interior design offers a sense of stability and permanence that is highly valued in modern traditional aesthetics. It emphasizes quality design and visible craftsmanship as a counterbalance to mass-produced decor.

How to bring Neo Deco into your home

To introduce Neo Deco into your home, you do not need a historic apartment or a penthouse, just a few statement pieces and a thoughtful arrangement of elements. The charm of the Neo Deco style lies in telling your story, creating a sense of comfort, and carrying that refined, elegant touch. Perhaps you own a beautiful sideboard you inherited that is ready to take center stage, or you might swap simple glassware for crystal. You are the one who will breathe life into it, so be bold.

Vintage pieces: Look for items that are authentic and unique. This could be a new designer leather sofa, or a visit to a flea market where you discover a treasure in the form of a bar cart. What matters is that it captivates you and evokes a refined feeling every time you use it.

Statement lighting: Neo Deco loves statement lighting, whether it is table lamps or a central chandelier in the room. Replace simple lights with sculptural fixtures featuring brass or chrome details and strong geometric forms.

High-impact surfaces: Consider using luxurious materials, such as a red marble top on a console table or a smaller surface of black-and-white geometric tiles in the bathroom. If you want a stronger statement, choosing wallpaper with a geometric pattern is the right decision and unmistakably Neo Deco.

Textures for a sense of luxury: Invest in a piece of furniture that incorporates velvet, leather, or quilted detailing in a deep jewel tone. Rich textures will instantly introduce a “glamorous” and distinctly “moody” Neo Deco character.

Geometric accents: With accessories such as mirrors with geometric frames, patterned artworks, or even fan-shaped shell cushions, you can subtly weave characteristic elements into a more modern, understated space.
