The jewelry that brought our childhood memories back to life

At the very start of December, the Split based brand Little Wonder paired Selma Štrkljević Mravak’s jewelry with the motifs that shaped her and her sisters’ childhood, inviting us on a nostalgic holiday journey.

As soon as December arrives, the air begins to smell like nostalgia. The crisp breeze that brings color to our cheeks, the cinnamon tea, and the gently comforting scent of warm biscuit, like Proust’s madeleine, invite us to surrender to a journey down the roads of our memories. It is an unpredictable trip, yet more often than not, if we were at least a little lucky, it takes us along paths painted in bright tones, warmth, and the presence of people who made our childhood days unforgettable. This very journey through memories, emotions, and the small bits of magic that shape the spirit of Christmas inspired the new holiday campaign by Little Wonder.

The idea came from a very specific memory of December in our family home. We grew up surrounded by the sounds and rhythm of our mother’s and grandmother’s workshop, a place where something was always being made. That atmosphere, the scents, threads, pencils, textures, Christmas ornaments, and the small, worn little talismans that had survived in our household were the starting point for the campaign. We wanted to translate those moments into a visual story that is personal and playful, yet universal enough for everyone to find their own holiday feeling in it, explains jewelry designer Selma Štrkljević Mravak, whose sister Alma Štrkljević is the photographer behind the campaign. kampanje.

The visuals in holiday hues bring to life the warmth of home and a sense of nostalgia, portraying the small, everyday rituals from the childhood of the Štrkljević sisters. In this way, Selma and Alma open the doors to their early memories, connecting the past with the present moment. Each photograph references a treasured memory or a motif that became woven into their lives as an essential part of their childhood. Over the fifteen years that the Little Wonder jewelry brand has existed, every collection has explored a return to childhood, reflections on identity, growing up, and the experiences that shape us during that time. These motifs and inspirations remain a lasting presence in Selma’s work, whose brand has become recognizable since 2010 thanks to meticulously crafted pieces, diverse styles, and captivating details.

We grew up in a family full of eccentrics and creative micro worlds, which became our first playground. Those small impulses, the scents of materials, and the scenes of making left a permanent mark on our visual signature. This is why even today we see the world through form, color, composition, and design. Our mother and grandmother worked with knitwear, and our father was a painter and model maker, so creating was always a natural part of the day, Selma recalls of the moments that shaped her. All of this taught me patience, attentiveness, and respect for materials, as well as the understanding that handmade work demands time, skill, and dedication. For a Little Wonder piece to shine the way I want it to, it goes through a long chain of steps, from the initial sketch and design to sawing, sanding, polishing, and final hand finishing. The process is lengthy, but this is where the most valuable part is born, a piece created with intention and care. In an age of excessive and accelerated production, such an approach is becoming increasingly appreciated and recognizable, and that makes me happy. It is no coincidence that the three of us sisters ended up in creative professions, Alma as a graphic designer and photographer, Emina as a designer and founder of the brand Chicks on Chic, and I as a jewelry designer.

The campaign is also conceived as a practical holiday gift guide. Selma selected some of her favorite pieces, including the bestsellers Tic Tac Toe, Twisted and Marbles bracelets, Ena earrings with delicate baroque pearls, Twisted earrings, and the essential Grandma’s Pearls necklaces, along with many other special creations. The webshop of Krug, the Split based Designer Store founded by sisters Emina and Selma, is for the first time offering the popular Lucky Charm bracelets, made from tiny freshwater pearls, Adriatic coral, amethyst, and other semi precious stones.

I selected the pieces that best represent the brand’s DNA, minimalism, functionality, and handmade craftsmanship. The Lucky Charm bracelets are a new favorite, they remind me of the bracelets we used to make as children from leftover materials in the workshop. The Tic Tac Toe, Twisted, and Marbles bracelets carry the recognizable LW signature and are my personal homage to childhood play, spontaneity, and the small moments of joy that mark growing up. Pearl pieces are always a classic and sought after gift, and they remind me of my grandmother who wore those tiny freshwater pearls every day, not only on special occasions, the designer explains as she details the special meaning behind each Little Wonder piece.

This campaign was created out of a desire to share something deeply sincere, the moments that shaped my sense of beauty and the joy of the holidays. Alma managed to capture the emotion and atmosphere of those memories perfectly, Selma added in closing, noting that all jewelry pieces are ready to ship right away, just in time to bring joy to someone who finds them under the tree.
