However, as you have probably seen in countless paparazzi photos over the past decade, Kendall Jenner, Olivia Wilde, and even Taylor Swift got in my way. As Charli XCX says, “I couldn’t even be her if I tried!” Somewhere along the way, my list changed. Yes, Zoë Kravitz, you can relax, I am not going to steal your boyfriend. Regardless of the fact that my fangirl era is long behind me, I believe it will never be fully extinguished, because this morning, the moment I opened my eyes, my first thought was: I need to listen to Harry Styles’ new song.

Last week, Harry Styles delighted fans with the not so sudden news that he is releasing a new album. We have long suspected that his fourth solo studio album was on the way, but despite that, the announcement went viral. Harry revealed his new album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, which is set for release on March 6, and judging by the unusual cover, it was clear that this would not be a musical era similar to his previous ones. Instead, he seems to be preparing something entirely new. What is more, many fans began to wonder whether Harry is entering his rave era. Well, last night the musician released the first single from the album, Aperture, and I think it gives us a partial glimpse of what is to come. And of course, it is great.

I have to admit that I did not have particularly high expectations for this song, simply because I did not want to be disappointed after 15 years of faithfully following his work. However, it seems that over the little more than three years during which Harry did not release new music, I forgot about his ability to make absolutely everything sound great. I believe he could sing me a restaurant menu and I would still enjoy it. But the new single really is good, even if you are not a longtime fan. Aperture, just as we could have assumed, is genre wise different from Harry’s previous songs. Although I enjoyed his rock oriented tracks the most, I have to admit that I am quite intrigued by this alternative, electronic dance sound. It was about time indie girls were recognized in clubs.

Aperture is a track that invites you to dance, which is confirmed by the reactions of numerous fans who have already recorded themselves dancing to its infectious melody, but it essentially retains Harry’s recognizable sensibility. The lyrics are poetic and masterfully written, as we have come to expect, and the musician’s voice is gentle and captivating. If this track is to the new album what an aperture is to a camera lens, then I am almost certain that we are in for a brilliant new body of music, of the very best kind, the kind you can both dance to and cry to. What more could we ask for?
