The iconic Victoria Beckham coat I’m investing in to survive winter

Considering I grew up in a city where winter snow often rose above my head (both literally and metaphorically), my sensitivity to cold is a bit unusual. To be fair, I spent most of my life trudging through blizzards in unbuttoned coats, without hats or gloves, convinced they ruined the outfit. So maybe my aversion to winter comes from all those years of letting the cold seep into my bones. Either way, the moment temperatures drop, you’ll now find me wrapped in sweaters, jackets and oversized scarves.
The other night, while walking through an especially cold autumn evening, or should we just call it winter already? – I was bundled up in my oversized jacket and swallowed by a massive scarf. Only my eyes peeked out from the high collar and layers of wool, and in that cocoon I realised, finally, I wasn’t freezing. (The feeling lasted all of five minutes before my fingers went numb, but even that brief moment of comfort felt like a win.) That’s when it hit me: I need a jacket, or better yet a coat, with a collar so high it reaches above my nose, because that’s the only truly reliable way to stay warm through winter. And of course, I thought of the fashion legend who perfected the look – Victoria Beckham.

Watching her documentary series on Netflix reminded me of her iconic leather jacket with the exaggerated high collar, a piece I’d always found undeniably cool, though I was never sure anyone besides Posh Spice could make it look that good. Last year, a photo of Victoria Beckham walking in a coat with a collar pulled up to her eyes took over social media. Naturally, it was her own design, a Victoria Beckham coat from the Fall 2024 collection. In the end, that cozy look became her signature winter uniform.
This year, jackets and coats that don’t even require a scarf, and that Victoria Beckham herself would surely approve of, are everywhere. Trendsetters in fashion capitals have embraced the ultra-high-collar silhouette, and runways suggest that this trend won’t remain exclusive to winter. We’ll be seeing it well into the next warmer season too.
High-collar jackets and coats are a chic way to stay warm even in the coldest months without compromising your personal style. You can go for a heavier version that will keep you cozy through the coming winter, or opt for a coat like the one Victoria Beckham wore, which—with a few styling tricks—you can wear both in winter and in early spring.
