The season’s must-have accessory, styled in 7 ways

For several winters now, I have been wearing my dark blue Valentino coat, which I adorned with a gilded bird-shaped brooch. Although the coat is classically beautiful and elegant, I believe it is precisely the brooch that gave it character, like a talisman that, incidentally, reveals something about me as well (probably that I truly love everything that flies and has wings). I wear it almost all the time, only occasionally moving it to the lapel of a blazer to spice up an outfit. It seems to me that this small, understated detail gives the look a charming vintage appeal (and it is often a great conversation starter).

Brooches waited patiently for quite a long time in jewelry boxes, and then made a major comeback in the Fall/Winter 2025 collections. In the Miu Miu collection, Miuccia Prada decorated sweaters and fur coats with brooches, pairing them with other jewelry, while Carolina Herrera put oversized floral brooches in the spotlight. The trend was embraced by well-known faces as well. Julia Roberts stepped out wearing a tie lavishly adorned with different styles of brooches, while Khaby Lame appeared at the Met Gala in a suit whose vest was decorated with watches. The fascination with brooches continued into the Spring/Summer 2026 season, with fashion houses turning this “small” accessory into a central element of their fashion stories. In visions for the warmer season, brooches became anything but shy, and what is also significant is that we no longer wear them only on the lapels of coats and blazers, but also on hats, shoulders, bags, or ties, mixed with badges or paired with gold jewelry for a fully refined look.
