Fans of intrigue, astonishing plot twists, and scandals within the highest ranks of aristocratic society in the TV series Bridgerton are eagerly counting down the days until the fourth season begins. The first part of the series arrives on Netflix on January 29, followed by the second on February 26. Its return will undoubtedly reignite interest in regencycore aesthetics, a trend the series sparked with its lavish costumes when the first season premiered in 2020.

Voluminous empire silhouettes, decadently emphasized sleeves, sensual square necklines, opera gloves, velvet, and an abundance of feathers and pearls make up the recognizable visual code of Bridgerton’s regencycore aesthetic, inspired by the Regency period, a time of complete opulence in the English aristocracy. The series is set between 1813 and 1827, and its costume design is built on romantic, feminine silhouettes that frame regencycore as a contemporary reinterpretation of early 19th century European fashion. The influence of this trend is also visible on the runways for the spring/summer 2026 season, from decadent ruffled dresses presented by Saint Laurent, through Balenciaga’s opera gloves, to Jonathan Anderson’s vision for Dior, enriched with a dose of nostalgia and historical references.
Although regencycore will certainly shape our dresses and encourage us to finally slip into refined, long gloves, the trend’s greatest impact will likely be seen in jewelry. Minimalist pieces with clean lines will be replaced by opulent designs adorned with semi-precious stones, theatrical, striking, and slightly pompous. We will wear necklaces and earrings at the same time, along with rings, bracelets, and even tiaras, paying no heed to the style advice of Mademoiselle Coco. When leaving the house, we take nothing off and may even add a little more. Within the aesthetic codes of regencycore, there is no room for restraint or shyness. Everything is somewhat excessive, yet irresistibly glamorous.
