The paths of fashion trends are strange. Shoes we until recently associated with snowy slopes and après-ski adventures have now moved onto city sidewalks and become regular fixtures in street style photos from fashion capitals. What is surprising in this story is not the new purpose of winter boots, which have stopped being part of ski-only outfits and become elements of everyday urban looks, but the fact that this shift happened at a time when snow in cities is rarer than ever.

Although UGG boots have always been present in city outfits, models from other winter boot brands were rarely seen on the streets. That has changed recently. During the latest fashion weeks in Paris and New York, we could spot looks completed with popular Moon Boot, Moncler, and Bogner boots. Trendsetters styled these robust snow boots, which protect us from ice, harsh northern winds, and other winter challenges, in countless ways, from baggy jeans to more feminine outfits with skirts and dresses. The new trend, though unusual, has already gained momentum, and snow boots have meanwhile become one of the must-have models for winter, even if you have no intention whatsoever of attending après-ski parties in St. Moritz.
