Even if you are not an artist, you are invited to stay here as part of your visit to Florence.
Numeroventi is a unique project that combines an artist residence, co-working space, exhibition space and apartments. It was conceived as an interdisciplinary platform by Martino di Napoli Rampolla and Alessandro Modestino Ricciardelli, who in turn engaged the editor of Openhouse magazine, Andrew Trotter, to design the interiors. The result is a pleasant combination of Renaissance splendor and Scandinavian minimalism that, once you experience it, you want to enjoy forever.
As a residential and research platform and a non-profit organization, Numeroventi was opened in 2016. . Since then, it has been a space where artists and designers can research, develop and materialize their practices through an international residency program and become active through a network of initiatives and collaborations.
It is located in a former syrup factory, the historic Palazzo Galli Tassi, which dates back to 1510. In the very heart of Florence, the residence integrates the local artisanal heritage by creating a synergy between invited artists and local artisans. Current and past knowledge intertwine, enabling young creatives to rely on some of the best production practices in the world, while simultaneously pushing forward the centuries-old tradition of artisanal work, embracing contemporary techniques and visions.
“With our vision, we want to continue the development of the Florentine artistic framework through the creation of a transdisciplinary collaboration that includes national and international creatives and domestic craft expertise. Combining artistic research and hospitality through a holistic approach, the project reaffirms the role of art and design as an activator of new ways of living and interacting with the world,” say the founders about their project, which has so far won over all the important media that write about design. Artists come here to refresh and advance their artistic views and practices, and purposeful travelers to rest and be inspired. A pretty good combination if you want to experience something different than just a nicely decorated hotel.
Numeroventi has over three floors with an impressive courtyard, living room and cafe and offers seven exceptionally decorated rooms. Their five-meter high ceilings, large windows and fantastic historical frescoes have been renovated in a style that draws inspiration from the artists that Numeroventi hosts.
“Last year we opened our new gallery space with a fall residency program featuring Minjae Kim, Gala Prudent and Samuel Guerrero, curated by Ben Broome. The program ended in January, and we are already preparing for this year’s edition,” explained the owners and took the opportunity to invite us to join them in their research and redefinition of modern housing.
