The prescription frames redefining street style right now
by Tina LončarDecember 1, 2025
I started squinting when I was about ten. I’d lean toward the school board, pressing my eyelids together and wondering for months why the chalk suddenly looked so foggy. That was also when I got my first prescription glasses. At that age, it felt dramatic in the worst possible way. Glasses didn’t fit the version of myself I wanted to be, and it took almost twenty years to accept them as something that simply belongs to me.
Now it’s the opposite. Without them, I feel a bit off, like I’m missing a piece of myself. Once I realised that retro, seventies-style frames suit me best, the kind you can’t ignore, they became my favourite accessory, the detail that pulls everything together. This fall/winter 2025 season is full of standout frames in bold colours, unexpected materials and sculptural shapes. Miu Miu, Valentino, Thom Browne and Gucci all presented new versions that treat prescription glasses as a true fashion statement. And it’s not just the runways. Street-style regulars have embraced them too.
While searching for the eyewear trends taking over right now, we landed on five styles that really stand out. You’ll find them below, along with ideas on where to shop them
Thin metal frames in all kinds of shapes have been among the most popular styles in recent seasons. They slip easily into different looks and work with almost any outfit, which makes them the perfect “neutral” choice if you wear glasses every day. Aviator styles add an extra touch of cool, and you’ll find them in the collections of brands ranging from Loewe to Saint Laurent.
Coloured frames have always felt a bit eccentric, especially when they come in a bright shade and a bold shape. They’re usually worn by people who already have a few classic pairs in rotation, but their real strength is simple: when you’re wearing them, you don’t need any other accessory.

I love square frames. I’m not sure if it’s because they suit me or because I’m drawn to anything that steps away from the classic, probably both. This season they’re back in a big way, bringing a hint of retro charm with them. Works for me.

Clear frames have always felt a bit funky to me, as if they’re trying to “blend in,” yet they’re anything but invisible. They work with every style and outfit, and still never look boring. I especially like them on heavier, statement shapes or on unusual silhouettes like hexagonal frames. Right now, some of the biggest brands, including Miu Miu and Gucci, have great options in their collections.
Browline frames, the ones that look as if the structure sits only along the brow, have been considered a classic for decades. They were especially popular in the 50s and 60s, and with the return of retro trends, they made a strong comeback after the 2010s. The most iconic version is the black upper frame paired with gold-tone metal, but brands like Dita and Prada now offer browline styles in other shades too, including orange and burgundy.
