Zagreb feels lively these days, you can sense it in the air. As every year around this time, preparations for Advent in Zagreb are in full swing. From November 29 to January 7, the city will turn into the kind of winter we love most — filled with concerts and events, countless food spots, museums offering a touch of holiday magic, and all the other surprises currently in the works. There’s something special about those Advent lights, the way they draw us together and create their own kind of warmth. We’ll worry about detoxing sometime at the end of January. Until then, enjoy the festive winter. Below, you’ll find the only guide you need for Advent in Zagreb.
(you’ll have plenty of time to visit all of them, more than once)
Fooling Around
Where? Oleander Terrace in front of the Esplanade Hotel
Just like last year, the terrace in front of the Esplanade transforms into a festive “Orient Express” with nine “carriages” offering specialties by renowned chefs and mixologists. From November 26 until December 31, you can enjoy various rhythms — from acoustic sets and Latin dance to R’n’B grooves and FRKA programs — all paired with a strong food selection.
Caffe de Matoš
Where? Strossmayer Promenade
On the Strossmayer Promenade, where our celebrated poet and writer A. G. Matoš symbolically “watches over” the city, visitors can expect a romantic red-and-gold atmosphere, daily performances by young bands, and a rich gastronomic offer to complete this charming social spot.
Advent on Zrinjevac
Where? Zrinjevac Park
Zrinjevac is often called the most romantic park in the city, and this Advent it will host artisans, traditional delicacies, and gifts. “Everyone is invited to pause, listen to the music, and remember why Zagreb’s winter fairytale began right here,” the organisers say.

Local food specialties, theatre performances, and a humanitarian programme complete this modern holiday story.
Jinglingz
Where? Kvaternik Square
Anyone living near the popular “Kvatrić” will be happy to hear that Advent is returning to their small neighbourhood square (and it’s not far from the city centre if you’re up for a walk and want to escape the biggest crowds). The organisers say: “Music, food, drinks, and creative workshops offer a range of experiences that allow visitors to fully enjoy the festive atmosphere.”
