Last year around this time I kept wondering where all the colorful eyeshadow palettes we used to love had disappeared to. Now it seems I finally have an answer. The palettes, of course, never went anywhere. Yet in the era of subtlety and natural beauty there simply was no room for playfulness or creative brushstrokes.

Just when it seemed that the beauty scene had become permanently stuck in clean girl minimalism and endless beige tones with only the occasional hint of sparkle, Zara Larsson appeared. The pop princess of a new generation, thanks to her makeup artist Sophia Sinot, breaks the rules without hesitation.

Although it has been a few weeks since Zara’s Midnight Sun tour makeup look went viral, creative recreations of her now iconic look still fill my feed.

How do you achieve that signature Zara look?

Zara and her makeup artist Sophia love contrasts, details, and soft blends of pastel tones inspired by sunsets. From neon green with glossy pearls to strong graphic liner over a pastel pink base with a metallic sheen, anything goes as long as it is bold.
