Hair accessories that save me on every bad hair day

Sonja Knežević

November 19, 2025

I love almost every part of getting ready. From choosing an outfit to doing my makeup, I enjoy not only imagining the final look but also the process of creating it. Still, when I get to my hair, my imagination comes to a halt. It is as if I hit an invisible wall. No hairstyle comes to mind and nothing ever seems good enough for what I am wearing. Not to mention that even if I did think of something creative, I would never be able to style it on my own. That is why I am always at odds with my hair, which I have already accepted as being boring compared to my outfits. This fall, however, I found an unexpected solution because hair accessories are back in style.

I admit that I once believed hair accessories were mostly for children whose mothers were trying to tame unruly curls and keep hair out of their eyes. Scrunchies and floral clips were a regular part of my look when I was a child, but over time I stopped buying and wearing them. That changed when I discovered that hair accessories are the best answer to all my hairstyle problems. Bad hair day? I tie my hair in a ponytail with a few scrunchies. Boring hairstyle? Hair clips will fix that in a second. Need a hairstyle for a wedding? Bridal hair accessories solve that too. And if you think about it, many iconic characters in series and films had signature hair accessories, from Blair Waldorf’s headbands to Lorelai Gilmore’s scarves. In other words, hair accessories have always been stylish, but this season they are especially popular.

Below, I highlight the best hair accessories that will save you on any bad hair day.

Statement scrunchies

If you want an accessory that will truly rescue you on any bad hair day, scrunchies are the answer. I am not talking about plain black ones that get the job done but look incredibly dull. I mean interesting scrunchies, like those wrapped in a metal toned clip. They make creating a chic hairstyle incredibly easy and they are also perfect hair accessories for weddings. I always keep a few of them on hand because with these scrunchies, your hair will never look boring.

Hair clips and barrettes

The trend that returned from the early 2000s reminds me of the time when I was a child and wore a row of colorful clips in my hair every day. They made me feel like a princess and I loved mixing different hair clips and bright little barrettes. Hair clips are popular again, from large claw clips that are incredibly practical and great to keep on hand when you want to put your hair up, to smaller ones that are once again worn stacked in playful combinations that look lively and fun.

Floral hair accessories

Last summer I always wore my hair up with a floral hair accessory. During one walk, a little girl stopped me on the street just to tell me how beautiful my hairstyle was. It instantly brightened my day and I still retell this anecdote whenever I want to show people how lovely floral hair accessories can be. They make everyday hairstyles more interesting and they are also a great option for wedding hairstyles, whether you are a guest or the bride.

Headbands

When it comes to hair accessories, headbands have always been my favorite. They are incredibly practical at home because they keep your hair away from your face without flattening your hairstyle, and they look stylish when you wear them outside. Thick headbands, the kind Blair Waldorf would approve of, are the most popular this season, but you can try slimmer versions as well.
