From Andy Sachs to a fashion icon - Anne Hathaway’s style evolution is one worth following

November 13, 2025

Anne Hathaway is one of those actresses whose personal style (and character) I can hardly separate from her on-screen persona—much like Sarah Jessica Parker. Both had iconic fashion roles that shaped the way we perceive style, trends, and the fashion industry itself, creating an expectation that they should look equally impeccable every time they appear on the red carpet, just like Andrea Sachs or Carrie Bradshaw. It would be an exaggeration to say they always succeeded, but they certainly never failed to capture our attention. The former princess of 2000s romantic comedies, known for films like The Princess Diaries, perfectly illustrates how style matures with age and experience. At the premiere of that very film, whose third installment has been in the works for a while, she appeared in a purple taffeta midi dress, with a soft pink manicure and her signature smile.

Since then, Anne Hathaway has taken on major roles while simultaneously refining her fashion expression—in silk gowns in jewel tones, romantic tulle silhouettes, strapless designs, tie-up dresses, long trains, and elegant cuts. She often accessorized with matching handbags and striking jewelry that reflected the spirit of the time. Over the years, her red-carpet style has evolved toward silhouettes that highlight femininity and bring a touch of drama through luxurious materials and textures. As a Bulgari ambassador, Anne has often glowed like a golden statue herself, dressed in metallic gowns and diamonds around her neck, even when she wasn’t nominated. When it comes to designers, she has always played it safe, opting for Versace, Armani, and Valentino. Unlike real-life assistants to fashion editors, however, she has never confined herself to the all-black zone, frequently experimenting with color: she’s just as likely to appear in bold red, radiant white, sleek black leather, or playful prints.

She once collaborated with stylist Law Roach, but since 2022, her dazzling fashion moments have been curated by Erin Walsh. Let’s not forget her look inspired by her iconic fashion role at the Michael Kors Spring/Summer 2023 show, where she wore bangs and brown leather—a look that seemed to have stepped straight out of the film. At the 2025 Met Gala, her outfit paid homage to the friendship between André Leon Talley and Carolina Herrera. She wore a black-and-white striped pencil skirt embellished with 200,000 pearls and crystals, a white cotton shirt tied at the waist, and black pointed mules. Naturally, the finishing touch was a diamond and sapphire necklace.

To mark her 43rd birthday and the completion of filming for the long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, we look back at Anne Hathaway’s most memorable fashion moments that capture her remarkable style evolution.
