Dolce&Gabbana Alta Moda collection is a love letter to Rome

In mid-July, the Italian duo Dolce & Gabbana staged a true fashion spectacle in the Eternal City. At dusk, among the archaeological remains of the magnificent Roman Forum, they unveiled their lavish Alta Moda collection. Part of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, once the very heart of the Empire, was transformed into a runway where exclusive creations paraded, evoking a scene reminiscent of a journey back in time. Perfectly in harmony with the grandeur of the location, the designs brought timeless charm to the Via Sacra, but above all, they told a story of eternal love for Rome.

Each creation from the Alta Moda 2025 collection is conceived as a homage to the timeless beauty and charm of Rome. The narrative is infused with Roman elements that served as inspiration for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana—from myths and ancient Roman history to the most iconic symbols of the Eternal City, such as Piazza di Spagna, the Trevi Fountain, and Trinità dei Monti. The collection intertwines various Roman references, including mythological goddesses, great works of art, and the sophisticated spirit of 1950s Roman fashion, deeply connected to the world of cinema and the legendary divas gathered around the Cinecittà studios. Each piece is crafted from rich fabrics, and what particularly captivates are the virtuosic handwork and opulent embroideries. It is precisely this symbiosis of craftsmanship and vision that forms the essence of every Dolce & Gabbana creation, reflecting what once made Roman ateliers renowned worldwide.

One of the coats was inspired by one of Rome’s most famous symbols—the Trevi Fountain. Every detail of the iconic Roman monument on the piece is meticulously crafted using the intarsia technique, creating the impression of a three-dimensional canvas. The combination of brocade, jacquard, and lurex silk reflects the fountain’s monumental beauty—from the blue sky above to the arches, columns, and statues that adorn it. The water, the very heart of the fountain, is represented through layers of chiffon in varying shades, transforming the coat into a cascading waterfall. The Italian fashion house approached each creation with equal care, turning them into true works of art.

The Alta Moda 2025 collection reflects a fusion of Italian tailoring tradition and creative innovation—combining precision, beauty, and elegance. Rome is the triumph of Beauty. Across the centuries, emperors, popes, and patrons summoned the most visionary artists to the capital, determined to make its Beauty universal. It is through their masterpieces that Rome became the Eternal City… For years, we dreamed of Rome’s Beauty, the designers explained.

Now, that love for Rome has been revived in the fusion of the Alta Moda and Alta Gioielleria collections, with pieces showcased in visuals by Luigi & Iango, worn by the iconic model Kristen McMenamy.
